DUF's values
DUF is based on shared values. The central values are democracy, responsibility, respect, tolerance, involvement, and openness towards the surrounding world. These values lie at the core of DUF's work along with respect for and understanding of the diversity of our member organisations.
Democracy in action
Democracy, participation, and influence are central values for DUF. DUF continuously works towards engaging young people in society and ensuring that they have a say. It is DUF's conviction that young people must experience and take part in democracy in their daily life. Young people must have influence on their everyday life in order to actively engage in the challenges of democracy and community.
Volunteers – a huge resource
’Volunteering’ means involvement in voluntary associations and is related to each individual's freedom to do what they want. Volunteering should be based on a desire to be involved, on community, a sense of responsibility, and enthusiasm.
Volunteer associations are an invaluable resource to society, due in part to the specific outcome they generate, but also because they facilitate youth exchanges that supersede background, education, and social conditions.
Children and young people – near and far
One of DUF's crucial tasks is to speak on behalf of the weakest children and young people. Differential treatment and discrimination based on age, gender, sexuality, nationality, religion, or ethnic origin are incompatible with DUF's values.
Children and young people across the globe have the right to a dignified future. DUF shares the responsibility to secure a framework for the international involvement of Danish children and young people in order to promote a sense of community and intercultural understanding. Therefore, DUF must set an example of openness and flexibility among Danish volunteer associations in order to embrace all children and young people in Denmark.
