Karin Merete Loch Hansen

The experience of standing in a heated debate, holding tenaciously to my arguments - and then finding out it really just stems from a misunderstanding. That is exactly the situation I'm looking for through the activities of Project Dialogue Ambassador.

The number of misconception we have about each other across cultures, religions, political affiliations - are endless, because it's so incredibly easy to assume a lot of things about each other. At the same time the feeling is absolutely fantastic - when we find out -  why Asmaa wears a headscarf, or howcome Peter says he has great respect for other religions, when he still supports the publication of the cartoon drawings

I am 21 years old, studying social sciences at Roskilde University. Also, I am active in the Social Liberal Youth Party of Denmark, where I especially work with the political issue of integration. An a very important thing about myself - I'm definitely not afraid to reveal - that I have broken a lot of my own prejudices about the Middle East through this project.

Oplevelsen af at stå i en hed debat, holde stædigt på sine argumenter – og så finde ud af at det egentlig bare bunder i en misforståelse. Det er lige præcis denne situation jeg søger igennem aktiviteterne i Projekt Dialogambassadør. 

Antallet af misforståelse vi har om hinanden på tværs af kulturer, religioner, politiske tilhørsforhold – er uendelige, fordi det er så utroligt nemt at antage en hel masse ting. Samtidig er følelsen helt fantastisk – når vi så finder ud af – hvorfor mon Asmaa går med tørklæde, eller hvorfor Peter godt kan have stor respekt for andre religioner, selvom han støttede op om udgivelsen af muhammedtegningerne. 

Jeg selv er 21 år gammel, studerer samfundsvidenskabelige basisstudier på RUC og er aktiv i Radikal Ungdom. Og jeg er absolut ikke bleg for at afsløre – at jeg har fået nedbrudt et hav af mine egne fordomme omkring Mellemøsten igennem dette projekt.
